Poppy Chardonnay – My “Everyday Rombauer”

Buttery, creamy, oaky, smooth. Mmmmmmmm . . .

I start to salivate at the mere mention of Rombauer Chardonnay. Holidays, celebrations, special events . . . any excuse to indulge my taste buds in a glass or two of this $32 bottle of wine. But what’s a girl to do every other day of the year?!?
Recently a friend of mine introduced me to Poppy Chardonnay, a bottle of wine she is lovingly referring to as her “Everyday Rombauer”. At less than a third of the price ($9.99!!) and boasting similar characteristics such as buttery and oaky, I had to give it a whirl.
First impression of this wine was not what you may expect. FRUSTRATION! It’s incredibly hard to find! After visiting several local wine merchants, liquor and grocery stores. . . I was finally able to track it down at K & L Wine Merchants here in San Francisco. And believe me, it was definitely worth the hunt.

With the first sip, I was immediately pleased with my purchase. I was entranced by crisp fruity flavors, followed by a smooth, creamy, vanilla finish. My husband Jim took one look at my expression and said “that good, huh?” Yes, it’s that good.
CHEERS!
**Do you have an “Everyday Rombauer”, and are willing to share a glass? I would love to hear what wines make your taste buds dance, while keeping your pocketbook intact!

Sounds like a great wine! Unfortunately I figured if you are having trouble finding a California wine right in San Francisco I was afraid that we would not be able to locate it on the East Coast. That fear was confirmed when I checked a couple large vintners that we are familiar with.
So I followed your link through Amazon but they are not authorized to ship to our state.
Seems I’ll have to store the name away in my SpringPadIt app to try it out “someday.”
Thanks for the review!

Thanks for the heads up Marge. Bummed it is so hard for people to find! I will definitely update my post with any new distributors as I find them. Thanks again!
