My new hobby this year has been Burlesque Dancing.

I’m sorry to disappoint but there are no nipple tassels or stripping involved. Though for some people I’m sure there is… ;)

For me burlesque dancing has been fun simply because I love dancing. I was looking for a new hobby, so when a friend of mine started teaching a class I thought why not!

Little did I know what I was getting myself in for…!

Our little burlesque group was asked to perform at a recent fundraising ball for the Make A Wish foundation and I couldn’t say no to such an awesome charity.

The only hurdle was finding a costume that I was comfortable wearing in public.

We were told to express our personality through our outfit and hair and makeup.

While corsets and frilly underwear may be a staple in a burlesque performance, they’re not really my cup of tea.

After watching the movie Burlesque for inspiration I decided to look for a dress instead.

When I came across this gorgeous Forever 21 dress on Ebay I just had to have it:

Hair and makeup I needed some help with. I am a total dork when it comes to applying makeup but I think the girls did a great job on me:

I would say I’m available for functions and performances but you couldn’t afford me.

It’s been fun being a part of a group and performing.

All of the girls involved say how much fun they are having and how they feel really good about themselves now. So don’t dismiss burlesque when you’re looking for something fun to do.
