Dr. Brandt Microdermabrasion Exfoliating Face Cream is, by far, by leaps and bounds, hand over fist, insert additional superlatives, the best face scrub I’ve ever had the pleasure of using.
I got this sample in my October Birchbox – thank you!

But I actually have a long history with the stuff.
I’d used it for a few years, ran out, and then somehow, never re-ordered. Hard to imagine given my love for it. When I saw it in the Birchbox package I was like, “Oh yeah, I used to use that stuff. Neat.” And then I tried it, remembered it, and I was like, “Holy shit, I used to use the shit out of this stuff, cuz it’s scrub-your-face-off awesome!”
If you’ve got crazy sensitive skin, I think it goes without saying that any kind of face scrub probably isn’t for you.
But if you’re in need of some major exfoliating action from time to time, this will be your champion. It’s the scrubbiest scrub I’ve ever used. It’ll never let you down.
It’s like a very, very, very fine grit sandpaper in a cream base. If you push too hard, it might hurt – so don’t do that. Be gentle. It’s powerful stuff.
Don’t believe me? Whatever. The average Dr. Brandt Microdermabrasion review at Sephora after 51 pages of reviews is a 4.7 out of 5 stars. This exfoliating face scrub is the real deal!
I’m not a huge Dr. Brandt fangirl, I’ve tried a few of his products and didn’t love anything, in face I really hated a few things (Pores No More face cream was *very* oily for something meant to deal with enlarged pores). Hated it.
FACE SCRUB TIPS
- I like to use my fingers initially with it, then I bring in the Clarisonic to get an even application all over my face.
- I like to do a mask sometimes and then a microdermabrasion scrub right after. The mask really warms and opens my pores, softens the skin, and then it’s primed for the scrub to really get in there and do work.
- You only need a teensy bit (that goes with that “Be gentle” warning – don’t slop it on like a mask).
You can get it at Sephora (yay samples!) and a bunch of random sellers have it on Amazon too at a discount. I don’t really like buying from randoms on Amazon though, but that’s just me.
It’s pricey. But remember, you only need a little. It’s absolutely, 100% worth it, if you have skin that needs exfoliation.
Have you ever tried Dr. Brant’s Microdermabrasion face scrub? Do you use something else? (Please don’t tell me St. Ives!)

I learned from a dermatologist that even if you have oily, blemish-prone skin you should start your routine with a gentle, non-soap face wash. I ordered online a up a bottle of Shielo’s Compexion Scrub (with Jojoba Microspheres!). As it turns out, I made a good choice because the Shielo Complexion Scrub has worked well for my oily skin.
It has a delicate, fresh scent. I didn’t really get much lather during use, but it was enough to clear away all of my makeup without irritating my face or my eyes. The cleanser washed off easily and thoroughly, and my face didn’t feel sticky with residue or tight as if it had been stripped. With a freshly clean palette, my nightime treatment goes on smoothly and without irritation. This is a good choice for anyone whose skin needs a gentle–but thorough–cleanser.
